Film information

Emilio Largo’s hi-tech yacht plays an important part in Thunderball. Featuring secret underwater hatches in the hull of the boat, Largo and his men are able to recover the bombs from the Vulcan bomber and return them to the Disco Volante undetected.

When Bond investigates the yacht underwater, a sentry SPECTRE diver spots Bond and they engage in a fight. An alarm is triggered onboard, where Largo views the underwater fight through hidden video cameras and underwater lights.

At the end of the film whilst being chased by the US Navy, Largo orders the activation of the smoke screen feature on the Disco Volante providing a thick blanket of smoke behind the yacht. Largo then orders the separation of the Disco Volante - after a lever is pulled the front part of the Disco Volante is jettisoned into a high-speed hydrofoil, leaving its cocoon behind. This in turn converts into a heavily armed weapons platform with deck guns, giving Largo extra time to escape. §
