pocket binoculars
These handy pocket binoculars could fold down and fit into the smallest of pockets. Bond uses this at the start of the film when he watching General Georgi Koskov and Kara Milovy at the opera.
Walther WA-2000
This rather big and hefty gun had an infrared sight with a telescopic lens. When it came down to ammunition there was a choice between soft nosed bullets or armour piercing ones, Bond chooses the armour piercing ones. Saunders gives Bond this gun to shoot the would-be assassin, Kara Milovy. When the sniper appears at the window, Bond notices that it was the girl with the cello he noticed earlier. Noticing that she was only an amateur and ”didn’t know one end of the rifle from the other” Bond merely shoots the gun out of her hand rather than kill her.
gadgets in Q’s lab
Whilst in Q’s Lab Bond see a couple of Q’s technicians demonstrate a normal looking portable stereo system. A technician then presses a button to reveal a hole that soon launches a rocket devastating its target down the corridor. Q tells Bond he is making this for the Americans.
Q also tells a technician to make himself comfortable on a sofa. However as soon as the technician sits down he is ‘swallowed’ by the sofa whose cushion rotates to hide the technician!
explosive milk bottles
Necros uses these deadly milk bottles to great effect when he impersonates a milkman to gain entrance to the Blayden safe house and ‘liberate’ Koskov. With each bottle filled with high explosives Necros causes a great deal of damage in a short period of time, telling security its a dangerous gas leak to keep them distracted.
weapon detecting device
This revolving metal rake detected any weaponry passing by it. If it detected someone carrying a weapon it would rotate and make a noise. This was used in the Blayden safe house to stop people carrying weapons onto the premises. As Bond approaches the safe house a member of staff asks him to relinquish his weapon.
Q-branch keyring
Bond is provided with this extremely useful gadget by Q-Branch. This key ring would save Bond’s life a number of times throughout The Living Daylights. Firstly by whistling the first few bars of Rule Britannia a cloud of stun gas would be emitted disorientating any normal person for about 30 seconds. By using the stun gas Bond manages to fight off his cell captor when he is about to be locked up in an Afghanistan prison. Bond then uses the lock pick that Q claims to open 90% of the world’s locks to escape his handcuffs.
Bond finds the gadget very handy at the end of the film when he places the magnetic key ring against an all statue of the Duke of Wellington. After wolf whistling, Bonds signature tune designated by Q, the key ring explodes causing the statue to fall and crush Whitaker.
binocular glasses
When Bond is in Tangiers, he follows Koskov’s car after a conference. Bond uses the glasses to spy on Koskov noticing him enter his hotel from a distance.
security watch
General Leonid Pushkin activates a silent alarm on his watch notifying his bodyguard after Bond corners Pushkin and his mistress in their hotel room. After notifying the triggered alarm, Bond strips Pushkin’s mistress topless and hides behind the door. As Pushkin’s bodyguard enters the room he is distracted for a second by Pushkin’s topless mistress giving Bond the few seconds he needs to take him out.
Trans-Siberian pipeline cleaning module
This small capsule is used to clean out the pipeline and was specially designed by Q-Branch to carry a man. James Bond uses this to help get Koskov over the border. Although not convinced about the capsule, Koskov gets in the module and when he asks how many times they have done this before, Bond replies “Relax, your the first!”
Brad Whitaker’s assualt rifles
Brad Whitaker uses the latest in weapons technology during his climatic confrontation at the end of the film. While Bond shoots at Whitaker with his 8 magazine Walther PPK, Whitaker shoots at Bond using various assault rifles shooting off their 80 magazine capacities in seconds. Whitaker also uses rifles with the latest bulletproof shields.
