About

Santa Catalina Castle (Castillo de Santa Catalina in Spanish) was built in 1596 after the English and Dutch sacking of Cadiz two years earlier. While not as ambitious as originally designed, additions were added to the castle over the years, where it continued to act as a castle. Santa Catalina Castle stopped being used as a castle in 1991, and was marked as a site of cultural interest in 1993. The castle is now a museum which can be visited free.
