Starred In Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

film information

Dr Kaufman played by Vincent Schiavelli is the final villain of Tomorrow Never Dies. After Elliot Carver learns of the betrayal by Paris, he arranges an appointment with the doctor to murder her.

Bond turns up at his hotel room to find Paris dead after being given a tip-off by Carver. As Bond gets ready to leave Dr Kaufman confronts him. He tells Bond to sit on the bed next to Paris, where he plans to frame him for her death, and then shoot him looking like a suicide. However after the ‘auto club’ cannot gain entry to Bonds BMW 750iL, Stamper contacts Dr Kaufman to torture Bond to give them access to the car. Bond gets the upper hand when he gives Kaufman his Ericsson Mobile Phone, telling him to press the combination of buttons that activates the electric shock. Now held at gunpoint, Kaufman tells Bond not to kill him, as he is merely a professional doing a job. Bond simply replies “So am I" and kills the doctor.

character information

A German doctor of forensic medicine, Dr Kaufman is also well known for his assassination techniques. When the doctor tells Bond he will have to torture him, Bond asks if he has a doctrine in that too. Kaufman informs Bond that torture is merely a hobby, but he is fairly gifted at the skill. Apparently well in-demand for his art, he tells Bond he is especially good at the ‘celebrity suicide’. A very formal looking, serious man, Dr Kaufman also mentors Stamper who sees him as a father figure. §
