film information

Elektra King played by Sophie Marceau is the third villain of The World Is Not Enough. After learning that Renard, a well-known terrorist who previously kidnapped Elektra King has possibly returned, Bond is sent to Kazakhstan to protect Elektra.

Elektra tells Bond that she can look after herself and she has much bigger problems to contend with. He escorts her up the mountains to view the survey lines where whilst they are skiing, become targets from airborne Parahawks. Bond manages to systematically destroy each one and meets back up with Elektra.

Bond spends the night with Elektra at her mansion in Baku. He picks up on clues from Renard that Elektra is not all she seems to be when he confronts Renard in a nuclear bunker. Elektra denies having any involvement with Renard when Bond confronts her, and asks M to travel to Baku to protect her. When M arrives, Elektra shows her and Bond a nuclear bomb that Renard has sent down her pipeline, heading towards the refinery. Bond and Dr Christmas Jones head to defuse the bomb, but discover that half of the plutonium needed to make the bomb nuclear is missing. Realising Elektra's plan at the last minute, Bond tells Christmas to leave the bomb as they escape the pipeline. Thinking that Bond is dead, Elektra reveals to M that it was her who killed her father, and takes her hostage.

Later in the film Elektra meets up with Renard to exchange ‘gifts’ – Renard gives Elektra the plutonium to complete their plan, and Elektra tells Renard about her hostage. After M manages to activate a warhead locator card, Bond learns of her position with the help of Valentin Zukovsky at a listening station. After escaping a bomb planted by Bull, Bond and Christmas are held at gunpoint and taken to meet Elektra. Bond is strapped into Elektra’s Torture Chair, where Zukovsky arrives just in time to save his life, but sadly loses his. After Bond chases Elektra to the top of Maidens Tower, she tells him that he can’t kill her, a woman he has loved. This mistake costs Elektra her life.

character information

Kidnapped by Renard previously, Elektra develops Stockholm syndrome when her father, Sir Robert King, refuses to pay her five million dollar ransom on the advice of M. After killing her father and taking control of his empire, Elektra plans to destroy Istanbul by detonating a nuclear submarine in the Bosphorus, consequently forcing the world to rely on her oil pipeline.

Elektra seduces Bond to hide her true plans and uses both Bond and Renard as pawns in a game to realise her ultimate goals. From killing her father who has stolen ‘her oil’, to manipulating Renard for her own means, Elektra is devious, cunning and ruthless stopping at nothing from achieving her objectives. She is ever eager to put right the wrongs done to her Azerbaijani mother and sees killing her father as the first step. Elektra also appears to have a fetish for ice. §
