Vladimir Popov, or Vlad, is first introduced when Gustav Graves heads to his ice palace in Iceland. Graves doesn't appear to be very impressed with his ice dragster and tells Vlad to try to make it faster. Later when Bond steals the dragster making his escape from the ice palace, Graves snarls at Vlad when he rather too cheerily tells him that Bond beat his time.
Later Vlad shows Graves the controls to use Icarus, and at Graves' request changes the controls over from something that resembles a metal suitcase, to a wearable metal suit.
At the end of the film during the battle aboard the Antonov, Bond shoots out one of the windows causing the cabin to loose pressure, and Vlad to be sucked out.
About
Vlad is a Russian scientist/inventor who works for Gustav Graves. He is responsible for creating the Icarus satellite, the ice dragster, electric suit amongst other things. Graves doesn't however appear very impressed though, often commenting that the design could be improved.
Providing some funny comic moments, Vlad appears to be very clever, if a little naïve as to his boss' intentions. He appears to be shocked when he finds out that his boss is actually Colonel Tan-Sun Moon. He doesn't have much chance to respond however since he is perhaps a little cruelly sucked out of the window shortly afterward. §
