Colonel Tan-Sun Moon is forced to evacuate his hovercrafts from his base when he hears his father General Moon is en-route. After the general manages to catch up with Bond at the end of the chase, he thinks he son is dead and arrests Bond.
Over the next fourteen months Bond is tortured in an attempt to find out who his co-conspirators are. Eventually a deal is done agreeing to trade Bond for Zao, after there is concern that Bond might have leaked national secrets.
Near the end of the film, General Moon reappears where he meets his son in the guise of Gustav Graves for the first time. He doesn't like what he sees however and tells Graves his son is dead. In effort to impress his father and other generals, Graves lets them watch his demonstration of Icarus and the onslaught into South Korea. General Moon is not impressed and is killed in the process of trying to stop his corrupt son.
About
Father to Colonel Tan-Sun Moon (and later Gustav Graves), the general has visions of uniting North and South Korea by peaceful methods, and disapproves of his sons aggressive military tactics. General Moon tells Bond that his plan to educate his son in the West as a bridge between their two worlds has backfired, when Colonel Moon becomes corrupted by the ideas and greed of the West. General Moon makes a final attempt to stop his son's aggression, now in the guise of Gustav Graves, but is murdered by him in the process. §
