Through an arrangement by the mysterious Mr White, a colleague of his, Le Chiffre, travels to Uganda to discuss a money making deal. Sussing him out, Obanno confirms with Le Chiffre that he wants no risk in his portfolio and that he can access the money at any time, anywhere in the world. Le Chiffre agrees, and Obanno and his men load a large sum of money into Le Chiffre's 4x4. He hasn't even left the area when he uses the money to buys more stock against the Skyfleet S570 launch being a success.
Later when Bond foils the plan to cripple the Skyfleet S570 launch, Le Chiffre holds a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro to recoup his losses. However Obanno learns of Le Chiffre losing his money, and travels to confront him at the game. When Le Chiffre returns to his suite, he finds that Obanna has got Valenka hostage. Filled with rage, Obanno strangles Le Chiffre who informs him that the money isn't lost, and he will have it the next day. Obanno decides someone should lose an arm for this betrayal, but since Le Chiffre needs it to play cards, he decides to cut the arm of Valenka instead. It turns out to be a bluff when he stops at the last moment. Obanno tells Valenka to find herself a new boyfriend after Le Chiffre didn't say a word to stop him.
Exiting Le Chiffre's suite, Obanno and his bodyguard start to walk down the hall. The bodyguard notices Bond and Vesper Lynd kissing but walks on. It's only when he sees that Bond is wearing an earpiece he draws his gun and fires, just missing Bond who instinctively moves. Bond then manages to throw the bodyguard through the middle of a large stairwell to the ground many stories below. Obanno then comes at Bond with a machete where a nasty fight works it way from the top of the stairs to the bottom. Bond eventually manages to gain the upper hand, and with a little assistance from Vesper, Obanno is strangled to death.
About
Steven Obanno is a leading member of a large army camp in Uganda. He seems to have contact, or know of Mr White's organisation, and has possibly done business with him before. A very serious man, skilled with a rather large machete, Obanno is certainly not a man to cross. §
