Profile

Whilst relaxing at a Miami Beach hotel, Felix Leiter tells Bond about Auric Goldfinger. After meeting with Jill Masterson, Bond forces Goldfinger to lose $15,000 dollars when he discovers his little cheating card game.

Later at a posh country club Goldfinger and Bond play golf, where once again Goldfinger tries to cheat but is once again foiled by Bond. Goldfinger tries to persuade Bond to stay out of his affairs by telling his henchman, Oddjob, to provide a demonstration. Oddjob then proceeds to throw his metal rimmed hat at a stone statue cutting off it's head.

Bond later follows Goldfinger to his factory later in the film in Switzerland. After scouting the factory at night, Bond hears Goldfinger mention 'Operation Grandslam', two words that save Bond's life later. Later he meets Tilly Masterson and manages to evade Goldfinger's men in his Aston Martin DB5. After putting a number of cars out of the picture, Bond runs out of road and is trapped by Oddjob and Goldfinger's henchmen. When Oddjob kills Tilly, Bond is escorted back to Goldfinger's factory, where after a car chase, Bond is captured by Goldfinger and strapped to a table made of gold with a laser pointing down at him. Bond's life is spared during this famous scene, after he convinces Goldfinger he knows about Operation Grandslam.

After Switzerland, Bond travels to Goldfinger's stud farm in Kentucky aboard his private plane piloted by Pussy Galore. Goldfinger briefs a number of American gangsters and organised crime members about Operation Grandslam, a scheme they help fund. Goldfinger then proceeds to Fort Knox where he plans to detonate a 'dirty' nuclear device inside its vaults, contaminating America's gold supply for 58 years.

After Pussy changes the gas in the canisters to a harmless short-term sleeping agent, Felix Leiter brings in the army to stop Goldfinger. When things start to go wrong, he manages to escape and later confronts Bond when he is on his way to White House to meet the President. After a brief fight, Goldfinger's gun is fired depressurising the aircraft cabin, causing him to be sucked out the window to his death.

About

Quite possibly one of the richest men in the world, Goldfinger owns various factories across the world, a stud farm in America, various planes, cars and even a posh British country club where he plays golf with Bond.

Obsessed with gold, Goldfinger uses any method including smuggling and murdering, to increase the value of his stock of gold. Extremely intelligent, he invents Operation Grandslam, his most inspired and daring plan to increase the value of his gold. Goldfinger makes uneasy alliances with various Mafia types and Mr Ling a Red Chinese agent, both who he betrays. A ruthless murderer, Goldfinger gets his various henchmen to do all the dirty work for him.

Trivia

Unable to speak any English, Gert Fröbe's voice in Goldfinger is dubbed entirely by Michael Collins. §
