Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Anthony Dawson)
Ernst Stavro Blofeld played by Anthony Dawson
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on 18th October 1916
Died 8th January 1992
Starred In From Russia With Love (1963) and Thunderball (1965)
In From Russia With Love Blofeld is seen plotting a devious plan with Rosa Klebb and Kronsteen. It is not until near the end of the film Blofeld is seen again, this time to order the assassination of Kronsteen when his plan to steal the LEKTOR and kill Bond fails.
In Thunderball Blofeld is this time seen in SPECTRE's high-tech Paris headquarters. After catching up on the latest assignments from SPECTRE agents, Blofeld puts one of his agents under pressure when he suspects him and another agent for stealing money. Ironically, Blofeld chooses to kill the agent who feels they are immune from his threats, and since the second agent appears so calm, he is killed.
After dealing with this problem, he asks the other agents to report, including listening to the plan of Emilio Largo to steal two nuclear weapons.
Ernst Stavro Blofeld is the head of SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Espionage, Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion). From Russia With Love marks the first time the mysterious character would appear. He would appear again in Thunderball, once again with his face hidden. It would not be until You Only Live Twice that a big reveal would be done showing the face of Blofeld played by Donald Pleasance.Highly intelligent and ruthless, Blofeld shows no emotion and equally has no problems about eliminating anyone in his staff who is disloyal or fails their assignment. Whilst planning and discussing world domination schemes Blofeld is always seen stroking his white Persian cat, especially when he is being particularly devious. This and other distinguishing trademarks help to establish the character when played by other actors in the future.
