Professor R. J. Dent played by Anthony Dawson is the second Villain of Dr. No. After Commander Strangways makes the mistake of getting Dent to check his rock samples taken from Crab key, Dent arranges for ‘The Three Blind Mice’ to kill him.
After Bond travels to Jamaica to investigate Strangways' death, he initially suspects Professor Dent.
After Dent fails to kill Bond with the tarantula provided by Dr. No, he attempts to kill Bond personally. He turns up at Miss Taro's house after giving her orders to keep Bond there. Bond confronts Dent, and after a short interrogation Bond calmly shoots him.

Professor Dent is a local metallurgist secretly working for Dr. No. He gets friendly with Commander Strangways after Dent learns that he is collecting rock samples on Crab Key. Well connected in Jamaican social society, he plays bridge with Commander Strangways and others at the Queens Club. Well respected, Professor Dent also gives orders to Miss Taro, the secretary at Government House.
