After Commander Strangways makes the mistake of getting Dent to check his rock samples taken from Crab key, Dent arranges for 'The Three Blind Mice' to kill him.

When Bond arrives in Jamaica to investigate Strangways' death, he initially suspects Dent is involved after speaking to him. When he starts to get closer to the truth, Dent pays a visit to Dr No who gives him a tarantula to kill Bond.

When Dent's attempt to kill 007 fails, he attempts to kill him personally. He turns up at Miss Taro's house after giving her orders to keep Bond there. 007 is already one step ahead however, and sets a trap. Once he has interrogated Dent, Bond coldly shoots him a number of times.

Professor Dent is a local metallurgist secretly working for Dr No. He gets friendly with Strangways after Dent learns that he is collecting rock samples on Crab Key. Well connected in Jamaican social society, he plays bridge with Strangways and others at the Queens Club. Professor Dent also gives orders to Miss Taro, the secretary at Government House.
