The head of United Artists marketing department was at this time David Chasman. He hired Mitchell Hooks and Joseph Caroff to design the Dr. No poster to advertise the film. Joseph Caroff designed the ‘007’ logo whilst Mitchell Hooks painted the figures of Bond and the Girls.
The image of Bond holding a smoking pistol in one hand and a cigarette in the other became famous as the films trademark. This image was also used in a variety of international posters throughout the world.
The US 1-Sheet poster followed the same design as the UK Quad, but added small line drawings of scenes from the film and dropped the image of Joseph Wiseman. While some countries adopted the UK and US designs, many also featured completely different designs and artworks. §
