Profile
Bond visits Elliot Carver's launch party in Hamburg where he introduces himself as a new banker. After talking to Carver he gets introduced to Wai Lin. After he comments to Wai Lin that he specialises in hostile takeovers, they move to the main area for the presentation.
After breaking into Carver's top floor laboratory and setting off the alarm, Wai Lin meets Bond once more. While he takes the hard way leaving the office, she takes the easy way by using a Q style gadget to work vertically down a large pillar.
Wai Lin encounters Bond once more when she also investigates the wreck of the Devonshire. After confirming each other's identity, they head to the surface after the Devonshire becomes unstable sitting on a rocky ledge. Wai Lin finds that the boat she was using as transportation has been taken over by Stamper, and Wai Lin and Bond are taken to meet Carver in Saigon. Using teamwork Bond and Wai Lin manage to escape by jumping off the building only holding onto a banner. Wai Lin gets on the back of the BMW R1200 motorcycle with Bond as they speed through the streets of Saigon evading Carver's men and a helicopter.
After Bond and Wai Lin have cleaned off in a shower, Wai Lin leaves Bond and heads back to her deceptively simple office, where after showing off her martial arts prowess, she deals with a number of Carver's men. After stocking up with Wai Lin's Q style gadgetry Bond and Wai Lin take on Carver's stealth ship. After plenty of close calls, a good handful of martial arts and a bit of luck, Bond and Wai Lin kill Carver, Stamper and destroy the stealth ship.
About
Wai Lin is a Red Chinese agent for The People's External Security Force. Similarly to Bond, Wai Lin's mission is to investigate Carver and his organisation in light of the incident with the Devonshire.
Bond and Wai Lin meet throughout the film on several occasions, where he suggests that it would be better if they worked together, shades of Bond's dealings with Dr Holly Goodhead in Moonraker. They do eventually decide to work together to take on Carver's stealth boat, working well as a team and in isolation. It's not until after the mission is complete that Wai Lin falls for Bonds charm.
Totally independent, resourceful, highly intelligent and an expert in martial arts, Wai Lin needs no looking after. Michelle Yeoh makes a great entrance in the field of Bond, performing the majority of her own stunts making Wai Lin continue the trend of the 1990's Bond Girl extremely well. §
