Profile
After Bond takes it on himself to further investigate Dominic Green, he follows him to Bolivia along with Réne Mathis. Waiting for him at the airport is Strawberry Fields, with orders from M to turn Bond around and put him on the next flight back to London. She quickly tries to assert her authority over Bond, something which he typically ignores. When Fields further threatens him with taking him personally to jail if he doesn't comply, Bond asks her when the next flight is. When she replies that it is not until the morning, he tells her to get in a taxi since they have all night together.
Fields takes Bond and Mathis to their run-down, cheap hostel, telling the pair that it matches their cover as teachers on sabbatical. Bond takes one look at the outside and tells her to get back into the taxi. He then takes Fields and Mathis to a five-star luxurious hotel in the middle of the city centre. Strolling up to the hotel clerk Bond delights in telling him (in Spanish) that they are teachers on sabbatical who have won the lottery, much to Fields annoyance. They head up to their hotel room where Bond manages to melt Fields' serious exterior, inviting her into the bedroom.
Later that evening Fields and Bond attend a environmental fund raising party hosted by Greene. After Mathis introduces the colonel of police, Carlos, Bond notices the tension between Camille Montes and Greene, and heads off to defuse the situation. As they walk down the stairs, Greene instructs his henchman Elvis to follow them. Noticing what was transpiring, Fields trips up Elvis as they meet on the stairs, allowing Bond and Camillle to leave.
When Bond and Camille return to the hotel much later, he knows something is wrong when the hotel clerk gives him a message from Fields telling him to run. Initially thinking that Fields was referring to M when he walks into his hotel room, he gets a unpleasant surprise when he discovers Fields dead on his bed, covered head to toe in oil. M rather coldly reminds him another woman has fallen for his charms who has ended up dead. Bond is then escorted out of the room into the lift by two other agents. When the doors close he manages to overpower them, returning to confront M alone. He tells M that he wants it noted on record that Fields showed true bravery and courage, and was not the simple office girl filing reports as M had stated.
About
An office clerk working in the British Consulate in Bolivia, Fields' full name is never actually used in the film. She simply tells Bond her name is "just Fields" when he asks. While she takes herself and her job very seriously, she misjudges Bond's charm and later regrets sleeping together.
In contrast to some previous Bond Girls, Fields is young and inexperienced in the dangers of Bond's world. Initially quite strong-willed, she decides to go against her orders to send Bond back to London. Knowing that assisting Bond at the party would bring her to the attention of Greene, she still decides to help him, even informing him of the danger at the hotel before succumbing to Greene and his henchmen. §
