When Bond arrives in Rio, he is aware that some woman is following him taking photographs, something he is uncomfortable with. When he reaches his hotel suite he finds Manuela at the mini-bar serving him a vodka martini. It is then that Manuela introduces herself as Bond's contact from station VH.
After Bond enquires about the letters C&W he saw in Venice, Manuela identifies it as being a large distribution company in Rio. After a romantic interlude Bond and Manuela visit C&W's warehouse later that night. When Bond takes a look around the warehouse it appears to be empty apart from a couple of Drax Air Freight stickers. Meanwhile a mysterious character following Bond and Manuela, reveals himself as Jaws. Seeing Manuela alone he gets ready to 'dig in' with his teeth. Bond manages to stop Jaws, and before he can retaliate he is swept away by a crowd of partygoers. At first Jaws resists but then shrugs his shoulders and joins in on the Latin spirit!
About
Manuela is certainly not afraid of getting intimately involved with 007 very quickly. After she tells Bond about C&W's warehouse in the city, he comments "How do you kill five hours in Rio if you don't samba?" as he starts to untie Manuela's silky gown.
While Manuela is Bond's contact for station VH, she doesn't appear to be very good at defending herself. While she carries a knife in her handbag for emergencies, she hardly makes any effort to resist Jaws' advances, leaving 007 to save the day. §
