Melina Havelock played by Carole Bouquet is the first and main Bond Girl in For Your Eyes Only. She runs into James Bond when she nearly shoots him with her crossbow after killing Hector Gonzales.

It is with the help of Melina that Bond escapes from Gonzales' men in Melina’s Citröen 2CV after his Lotus Espirit explodes.

Melina travels to Cortina when she is sent a fake telegram telling her Bond has met her parent’s killer and to meet him in Cortina. Melina has a lucky escape when Bond notices Melina and stops her getting run over by a couple of Yamaha motorbikes. Bond eventually persuades Melina to go back to the Triana in Corfu and wait for him. After Bond says goodbye to Bibi Dahl, Bond heads back to the Triana to meet up with Melina and they go shopping.

After Bond kills Emile Leopold Locque, he heads back to the Triana where he finds Melina clearing the seabed working on a Temple her father was restoring. After looking through her father's logs Melina tells Bond about a wreck that her father, Sir Timothy Havelock, had located. Bond and Melina travel underwater to a depth well over 500 metres in Neptune their two-man submarine to the wreck of the St Georges. During the disarming of the ATAC aboard the St. Georges Melina's air hose is ruptured during a fight with a man in a JIM diving suit. Melina rushes back to the boat whilst Bond takes care of the impostor.

After dealing with a Mantis submarine sent by Aris Kristatos, Bond and Melina return to the surface. Back on board the Triana, Kristatos is waiting and relieves them of the ATAC. After escaping from Kristatos in a unique underwater sequence, they head with Milos Columbo to Kristatos' mountain retreat where he is hiding and recover the ATAC. Melina and Bond end the film by disrobing each other and going for a moonlight swim.

Melina Havelock is half British, half Greek. She wants revenge after Hector Gonzales killed her parents. Melina is a very strong willed character, courageous and highly intelligent. She is very effective at using a crossbow that she does so on numerous occasions, including killing Gonzales aiding Bond to escape. Melina is an excellent ally to Bond and provides valuable support for the final attack on Kristatos.

other information

During filming of For Your Eyes Only it was found out that Carole Bouquet couldn't dive as she had sinus problems. To create the close-up underwater scenes, slow motion film and fan machines were used. Roger and Carole both wore diving masks and bubbles were added in by special effects to complete the scenes. §
