Vijay (Vijay Amritraj)
Vijay played by Vijay Amritraj
Born in India on 14th December 1953
Starred In Octopussy (1983)
As Bond arrives in India, a snake charmer starts playing the 'James Bond theme', identifying Vijay as his contact. A useful field agent, Vijay provides the getaway car for the exciting taxi chase through the streets of Delhi in the Tuk-Tuk Taxi. He later also keeps watch as Bond travels to meet Octopussy on her island, but is tragically killed by Gobinda and the Yo-Yo Thug.
Working under section chief Sadruddin, Vijay is a smart and resourceful agent, who also has a part-time job as a tennis pro at a local club. He quickly becomes a trusted friend of Bond, sharing the same interests and sense of humour, and provides expert help on a number of occasions. Consequently when Bond returns from Octopussy's floating island, he is clearly upset to learn of Vijay's death.
There are a number of in-jokes in the film as Vijay Amritraj was actually a professional tennis player. He also uses his tennis racquet as a weapon, and there is a scene where the crowd in the Indian market act like they are watching a tennis match. §
