Profile
After the death of Gibson at the Bottoms Up club, Lieutenant Hip arrests Bond and tells him he is taking him the station. After boarding a boat, Bond becomes suspicious and decides to escape when the boat passes close to a sunken liner. Bond then discovers the sunken liner is a base of operations for MI6 in Hong Kong. He is then embarrassingly introduced to his new partner, Lieutenant Hip, at the start of a briefing by M.
Later Hip shows Bond around Hai Fat's estate and drops him off for his invitation for dinner. After Bond is taken to Fat's karate school, Hip and his nieces help Bond escape, although they drive off without him!
After Bond arranges to meet Miss Anders with the Solex Agitator later in the film, Hip masquerades as a peanut vendor, allowing Bond to slyly give him the Solex, where Hip passes it to Miss Goodnight. After she is kidnapped by Francisco Scaramanga, the two agents have to report the bad news to M, who is not pleased at all.
About
An MI6 agent working in Hong Kong, Hip can easily protect himself and others using his karate skills to good effect. He is also skilled in diplomatic skills, as he arranges a deal with Gibson, and is fairly resourceful throughout the film. However Hip curiously fails to tell Bond he is taking him to see M, and later fails to realise he has left Bond behind when he drives off in his car. §
