film information
Lieutenant Hip played by Soon-Taik Oh is the first ally of The Man With The Golden Gun. After the death of Gibson at the Bottoms Up club, Lieutenant Hip arrests Bond and tells him he is taking him the station.
After boarding a boat, Bond manages to escape when the boat passes close to a sunken liner; however Bond soon discovers it is a base of operations for MI6 in Hong Kong. Bond is then embarrassingly introduced to his new partner, Lieutenant Hip at the start of a briefing by M.
Hip shows Bond around Hi Fat's estate and later in the film drops him off for his invitation for dinner. Lieutenant Hip and his nieces later help Bond make a half-hearted escape after he is taken to Hi Fat's 'school'. After Bond arranges to meet Miss Anders with the Solex Agitator later in the film, Hip masquerades as a peanut vendor, allowing Bond to slyly give the Solex to Hip.
character information
This MI6 agent working in Hong Kong can easily protect himself and others using his karate skills to good effect. Hip is also skilled in diplomatic skills, when he arranges a deal with Gibson, as well as being resourceful. However Hip curiously fails to tell Bond he is taking him to see M, and later fails to realise he has left Bond behind when he drives off in his car. §
