Felix Leiter played by Rik Van Nutter is the first villain of Thunderball. For the third time in the series Felix Leiter is played by a different actor, thus Leiter is introduced as being a mysterious villainous character before he officially greets Bond.
Felix Leiter accompanies Bond on his investigations for the atomic bombs in Nassau in a number of scenes throughout the film. Leiter plays a pivotal role at the end of the film, rescuing Bond allowing him to inform Leiter where the first atomic Bond is located.

The portrayal of Felix Leiter by Rik Van Nutter is of a more serious nature than that of Cec Linder or Jack Lord. This style is more suited to Thunderball where Leiter has a sense of urgency for finding the atomic bombs with no room for comical gags.
