Kerim Bey played by Pedro Armendariz is the only ally of From Russia With Love. Bond travels to Istanbul to meet Tatiana Romanova and bring home the LEKTOR decoding machine.
From his base of operations inside a rug bazaar, Kerim takes Bond over an underground lake where they emerge under the Russian Embassy. Kerim describes to Bond who he sees in the boardroom and invites Bond to take a look. Kerim provides Bond with the architect plans for the Embassy, and plans for Bond and Tatiana’s escape with the LEKTOR.
After Kerim survives an assassination attempt, he invites Bond to visit some gypsy friends with him. Just as the well-directed fight between Vida and Zora reaches its climax, Krilencu a Bulgarian henchman, and his men break in and cause chaos. Kerim Bey gets shot in the arm, but vows revenge. Kerim has his revenge when he kills Krilencu with Bonds Folding AR7 Rifle when Krilencu tries to escape.
After the operation to steal the LEKTOR from the Soviet Embassy is successful, Bond Tatiana Romanova and Kerim board the Orient Express. However, one of the Embassies security men spots Tatiana and boards the train. Whilst guarding the security officer, Donald ‘Red’ Grant kills Kerim.
One of James Bond’s most charismatic allies, Kerim Bey, a former circus strongman, is head of Station T in Turkey. Operating out of a carpet shop in a rug bazaar, Kerim oversees his large spy network keeping an eye on the Russians and Bulgarians with his employees all his sons.
Kerim is a very friendly, approachable, loyal man, whom Bond quickly makes friends with. Bond is clearly moved when he learns that Kerim has been killed. Only knowing Kerim for a short time, Bond feels that he has lost a valuable ally and more importantly a lifetime friend. §
