Mr Medel is first encountered at the casino in Montenegro. He tells the players that they need to enter a password to encrypt their account. Bond smirks when Mendel tells him to enter six letters or more, choosing Vesper as the password. After winning the poker game, Mendel travels to where Bond is recovering after his torture at the hands of Le Chiffre. In a very camp manner, Mendel tells Vesper Lynd to enter the account number and password. After the transaction is completed, he leaves Bond and Vesper to continue where they left off.
Later in Venice, Bond makes a worried call to Mr Mendel about having trouble accessing the funds in his account. Mendel informs Bond that the funds are being withdrawn as they speak, in the Basel bank branch in St Marks Square. When he sees the message on Vespers phone to meet Gettler, Bond hangs up and rushes to the bank.
About
Mr Medel represents Basel Bank in Switzerland and provides a safe place that the poker players deposit their buy-ins, and where the winner can collect from. He appears to have an unnatural enthusiasm and gleefulness in the few scenes he appears in and is rather over the top. §
