Mr Medel represents Basel Bank in Switzerland and is introduced at the start of the poker game. With an almost unnatural enthusiasm he gleefully tells the players that they need to enter a password to encrypt their account. Bond smirks when he Mendel tells him to enter six letters or more, choosing Vesper as the password.

After winning the poker game, Mendel travels to where Bond is recovering after his torture at the hands of Le Chiffre. In a very camp manner, Mendel tells Vesper Lynd to enter the account number and password. After the transaction is completed, he leaves Bond and Vesper to continue where they left off.

Later in Venice Bond makes a worried call to Mr Mendel about having trouble accessing the funds in his account. Mendel informs Bond that the funds are being withdrawn as they speak, in the Basel bank branch in St Marks Square. When he sees the message on Vespers phone to meet Gettler, Bond hangs up and rushes to the bank. §
