film information
Marc Ange Draco played by Gabriele Ferzetti is the first ally of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. After saving the life of Teresa Di Vicenzo (Draco’s daughter), Bond is ‘escorted’ to meet Draco.
After informing Bond about his daughter’s suicide tendencies, he offers Bond a one million pounds on the day that he marries her. Bond declines the offer telling Draco he has a bachelors taste for freedom. Later Draco tells Bond about a possible connection with Ernst Stavro Blofeld and a lawyer in Switzerland that Bond decides to check out later in the film.
Draco talents come into play much later when Tracy is held hostage at Blofelds headquarters – Piz Gloria. Draco leads a small strike force of three helicopters armed with men under the guise of an emergency Red Cross mission allowing them to get close to Piz Gloria. While Draco and his men lay explosives to seal the place off forever, Bond chases Blofeld escaping the building seconds before it explodes.
In the final scenes of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Draco remains true to his word and gives Bond the million pound dowry when Bond marries Tracy. Bond returns the money telling Draco that he loves her anyway and her price is invaluable.
character information
Draco is the head of the Union Corse, one of Europe’s largest criminal organisations. Draco also has several legitimate industries in shipping, construction and demolition. Despite his reputation as a feared mafia boss, Draco is a loyal, charismatic, likeable fellow who provides valuable assistance in the rescue of Tracy and the destruction of Piz Gloria. Even though Bond and Draco operate on different sides of the law, they share the same interests and pastimes and enjoy intelligent banter. §
