Profile

Felix Leiter, Sharkey and Bond are travelling down US State Highway 1 on route to Felix's wedding to Della Churchill in the Florida Keys, when friends of Felix's at the DEA tell him that Franz Sanchez is in the area. Felix and Bond leave Sharkey to explain what is going on to Della, as they go off and chase after Sanchez.

Later Sharkey is present at the wedding reception, and assists Bond in the search for sharks after Felix ends up in hospital. When Bond breaks into Milton Krest's warehouse at night, he is caught and held at gunpoint by Ed Killifer. After braving the shark guarding the entrance, Sharkey appears and saves Bond's life by opening the trapdoor Killifer is standing on. This puts him off balance and he grabs a rope suspended over the shark pool. When Killifer realises he can't climb up, he offers Bond a 50/50 split of $2 million dollars in a suitcase. Bond refuses and throws it at him, causing him to fall in. Sharkey then quips to Bond that it was such a waste, of money that is.

Sharkey later appears in a number of scenes, helping Bond with his investigations. However when Bond boards the WaveKrest he later looks out the window to discover Krests' men have killed Sharkey and have hung him up like a shark. Bond then proceeds to calmly walk out and shoots the diver responsible with a spear gun, telling him "compliments of Sharkey".

About

Sharkey is a deep-sea fisherman who is a close friend of Bond and Felix Leiter, who is also invited to his wedding as the best man. Sharkey earns his name from his interest in sharks, and seems to be knowledgeable about all things connected with them. Sharkey is a very friendly, warm and trustworthy friend and Bond is clearly upset when he finds out he has been killed. §
